Kissi
Future Hope People has been based in the village of Kissi since 2003. It is located approximately 25km west of Cape Coast in the Central Region. The village with five different schools has an estimated population of 1500. But Kissi is not only a "school center", many residents from the surrounding villages also come here to stock up on food at the daily market. There is also a hospital and a radio station in Kissi.
The Central Region is a densely populated region in Ghana. More than half of the people are under the age of 18. The region is characterized by poverty due to a lack of industry and employment opportunities and is one of the neediest regions in Ghana.
Takinta
Takinta is a village in the western region of Ghana and has around 5,200 inhabitants. 65% of the people are under the age of 45. Although the infrastructure in Takinta is not well developed, all residents have access to drinking water and electricity as well as transportation to other regions of Ghana.
The most common occupation in Takinta is coconut farmer. The women of the village mainly work on processing the dry coconuts into oil. Even though this business does not earn the inhabitants enough money to live a comfortable life, there is a great demand for coconut oil and people come from neighboring countries like Nigeria to buy oils for industrial processing.
Future Hope People started supporting the village community in Takinta in 2006 and has since funded the education of many children from poor families as well as building infrastructure and providing educational and sports materials to the local school. In addition, we have placed around 45 Ghanaian and German volunteers in the village, who have carried out creative and sporting activities with the children of the village, among other things.
As the future prospects for young people in Takinta are rather bleak due to the poor job situation, many travel to the neighboring countries of Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone to work there and earn a little more money than in Ghana to support their families at home.
Ahobre
Since 2009, Future Hope People has also been supporting a neighboring village of Takinta called Ahobre. While the people in Takinta live mainly from coconut cultivation, Ahobre is a fishing village located directly on the Atlantic coast.
Around 3000 people live in Ahobre, most of whom have moved here from other parts of Ghana to work as fishermen. The local languages are Nzema, Fante and Ahanta.
Future Hope People has been supporting the elementary school in Ahobre for several years, where many of the association's sponsored children also go. In addition, the association has distributed many donations in kind from Germany in Ahobre, as poverty in this village is very high. HIV awareness projects and environmental campaigns have also been carried out.
